Jane Muthoni the ex-wife of Kiru Boys principal Solomon Mwangi has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his November, 2016 murder.
Her co-accused Isaac Ng’ang’a alias Gikuyu will serve a similar sentence.
Muthoni and Ng’ang’a followed the sentencing virtually from Nairobi’s Langata Women’s Prison and Kamiti Maximum Prison, respectively.
In her ruling, Justice Joel the two were first-time offenders, and that Muthoni has young children who consider her sole breadwinner. At the time of the killing, Muthoni was the principal at Icaciri Girls Secondary School, Kiambu County.
Muthoni’s daughter, June Mbuthi, had on May 18 pleaded with the court to set her mother free, saying that since her incarceration five years ago, she and her siblings had no one to tend to them. The plea fell on deaf ears.
“Both accused persons had opportunities to walk back but they chose the path of death, I have come to the conclusion that custodial sentence of 30 years imprisonment of the two,” ruled Justice Ngugi.
Muthoni and her co-accused killed her husband over an alleged love affair with an Mpesa agent in Kiriani, Murang’a.
The slain Kiiru Boys’ High School principal’s killers reportedly seized him before he picked KCSE examination papers on November 7, 2016, morning, the day the national examination was set to begin. This prompted a search for him.
The principal’s mutilated body was found covered in soiled gunny bags in a thicket at Karakuta Coffee Estate in Juja, Kiambu County, five days after he had disappeared.
The body of the deceased was reportedly in bad shape, with his hands tied, face badly bruised and some of his teeth were missing.
