Moi Gesusu High school dormitory was on Tuesday night reduced to ashes.
Students’ belonging including beddings and personal items were destroyed in the 6:50pm fire. No one was hurt as the students were in class for preps. The fire was spotted by a villager at a neighbouring farm who raised the alarm.
The school principal Lukas Matiko says investigations into the mysterious fire have been launched, with three students pinpointed as arson suspects. One of the students reportedly fled from the Kisii-based school after the incident. ” We are currently talking to one student who had skipped the evening preps class to see if we can get any leads on the cause of the incident,” Matiko said. “We want the parents to be assured that all the students are safe.”
He said 36 double decker beds were among the items destroyed. This is the second time the school has experienced a fire incident in only eight years.
