A man in Dagoretti, Nairobi County, is in trouble after he was accused of beating up his pregnant wife, leading to miscarriage.
Kalvin Amwai reportedly kicked his wife on the stomach after a quarrel over food.
Appearing before the Kibera Law Courts, Amwai was charged with causing grievous harm to his wife who was five months pregnant.
He is accused of committing the offence on 31st May, 2021 at about 9 pm at his house in Kabiria area.
Why the ‘fatal’ kick?
On the fateful day, Amwai reportedly left home for his daily hustles. Upon returning home in the night, he asked his wife for food but she told him that she had not prepared any meal.
A quarrel that ensued quickly turned violent. He allegedly threw punches and kicks, injuring her.
The woman was then rushed to hospital by good Samaritans, with doctors confirming the sad news that she had lost her unborn child.
Amwayi pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Charles Mwaniki. He was granted a KSh300,000 bond.
The pretrial of the case is scheduled for June 17, 2021.
