A Form Four student in Baraton village in Londiani, Kericho County, has killed his father after an argument over lost chicken.
The 18-year-old boy reportedly returned home in the evening, only to realise that six of his chickens were missing. The teenager confronted his 50-year-old Wilson Kipsoi over their whereabouts.
“Angered by the confrontation, Kipsoi threatened to shoot his son with arrows, forcing the Form Four student at Kapcheplanga Day Secondary School to flee and seek refuge at a neighbour’s house,” says the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The following day, the suspect reportedly went back home armed with a club, vowing to stop at nothing until his father produces his chicken.
The DCI says the suspect descended on his father and assaulted him repeatedly using the crude weapon, while demanding compensation for his missing chicken.
After the assault, the boy went into hiding leaving his father unconscious.
Kipsoi was rushed to Londiani Sub-County Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
According to the investigative agency, the suspect is still at large and detectives are searching for him.
The body of the deceased was removed to St. Joseph’s Hospital mortuary in Molo as investigations continue.
