A man who booked a room at a lodging in Kirinyaga County was on Monday found dead on his bed with foam discharge from his mouth.
A report filed at Kiamaciri Police Station say that the 61-year-old man checked in at the Calabash Bar and Restaurant on Sunday and was alone in his room.
“James Kamau Mbacha booked his room at around 6:20 pm and ordered a bottle of beer and a soda,” said Beatrice Muthoni, the restaurant’s manager.
Jerotich Wanjiru, the room attendant, had visited the room at around 10.30 am but found it locked from inside.
She returned at 1 pm and still found the room locked from inside. It was at this point that Jerotich alerted the hotelier, who came to confirm the case.
The hotel manager went to report the issue at Kiamaciri Police Station.
The door to the closed room was then opened by DCI officers who had visited the scene.
On opening the door, the body of the man was found lying on the bed; dead with foam oozing from his mouth.
The DCI officers from Mwea West retrieved a half-consumed bottle of beer and soda beside his bed alongside two mysterious tablets and an unused condom.
“The scene was documented and the exhibits and samples collected for further analysis,” reads the police report.
The body was removed to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
