In a fresh twist of events in the ‘record-breaking birth of ten children‘ by a South African woman, her husband now claims he has never seen them.
Tebogo Tsotetsi, husband to Gosiame Sithole, 37, shocked many on Tuesday, June 15 after he claimed he was not aware of the wife’s whereabouts since her alleged birth on June 8.
‘Mother’s whereabouts still a mystery
A statement from his family revealed that they had tried fruitlessly to contact Sithole who had ‘declined’ to disclose her location. The revelation comes after speculations grew about the apparent world record.
Aside form the ‘telephonic and WhatsApp messages from Sithole’s mother, Tsotetsi’s family claims they have no proof of the babies’ existence. Effectively, they maintain that the decuplets did not exist until proven otherwise, and appealed for help in locating Sithole.
Earlier, the ‘father’ asked the public who had been flooding their accounts with donations in support of the ‘children’, to shelve their noble course until he could ascertain that the ten babies exist.
“I appreciate the financial support that we have been getting from members of the public, but I also would like to appeal to the public to stop making money deposits into our accounts until members of the community have seen the babies,” Tsotetsi said.
According to the Sunday Times, Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria where Sithole claimed to have given birth, said it had not treated her.
“We can confirm that none of our facilities were involved in the obstetric care of this patient or her decuplets,” the hospital’s spokesperson Tertia Kruger said.
“She’s recovering at a hospital in South Africa”
At Steve Biko Academic Hospital where Tsotetsi said his wife had checked in on Friday, they said she was not traced at any of their public or private facilities.
“She’s not at the hospital as we speak. We dont know the background. On Saturday afternoon she appeared, being accompanied by security and said she wants to go to the neonatial inpatient unit to see her babies. She said she gave birth at Louis Pasteur and they told her they will transfer the babies her,” The hospitals’s CEO Dr Mathabo Mathebula said.
So far, no doctor in South Africa has come out to confirm the delivery or pictures of the infants, while some of her relatives maintain that the birth was genuine.
One of the ‘infants’ aunt last week claimed that the babies and mother were at a hospital in South Africa. According to her, Sithole delivered five of the children naturally, and the other five through Caesarian section.
If confirmed, Sithole would break the world record of giving birth to the highest number of children at a go, surpassing a woman in Morocco who gave birth to nine children last month.
