A 36-year-old man from Rachuonyo East Sub-county in Homa Bay County has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his seven-year-old son.
The son is purported to have stolen KSh40 which angered his father who in return tied him on a tree as a way of punishment.
The man identified as Jeremiah Ndiga proceeded to beat the child with a piece of wood imposing serious injuries on the boy, events that reportedly happened on Sunday, June 13.
“The child was rescued by neighbours who responded to his screams. The Child Protection Services will take up the matter and act accordingly,” said Dickson Samba, the area Assistant Chief.
The Grade One pupil is responding well to treatment at Okita Nursing Home after sustaining serious injuries on his back, legs, and areas around his waist.
The man is currently being detained at Centre Sori Police Post awaiting arraignment in court.
“Children’s rights must always be protected. Assaulting a child is not acceptable. The law must take its course in such unfortunate incidents,” the Administrator added.
