Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been smashing records left, right, and centre ever since he started playing professional football.
Now, the Portuguese national team captain is the most followed person on Instagram, with a following of 300 million, ranking just below Instagram’s Instagram account which has a following of 397 million.
This massive achievement comes days after the superstar was seen removing two bottles of Coca-Cola put in front of him at a press conference ahead of the team’s opening game against Hungary.
It is no secret that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is obsessed with healthy eating and he was in visible disdain at the fact that they had placed soft drinks at the table. After putting the bottles away the Juventus forward shouted in Portuguese: “Drink Water!”
The Portuguese professional footballer surpassed the Instagram following count of some of the big Hollywood Stars like cosmetics mogul Kylie Jenner, Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), 7 Rings hit maker Ariana Grande and the Queen B herself Beyonce Knowles Carter.
Ronaldo is way ahead of the second-placed ‘The Rock’, with the wrestler-turned-actor having 246 million followers on the photo-blogging platform.
A 2020 report showed that Ronaldo is also the top-earning celebrity from Instagram. From March 2019 to March 2020, the 36-year-old earned the most money on Instagram from sponsored posts. He bagged $50.3 million (KSh5.4 billion), way more than the salary he earns ($33m or KSh3.56 billion) at his club- Juventus.
