Public Service Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh now claims that former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero paid her KSh30 million as compensation for slapping her.
In an interview with Ghetto Radio, Shebesh said that both parties opted for an out-of-court settlement, with Kidero agreeing to pay her the millions after the assault.
“Dr Kidero paid so much money that he won’t repeat the mistake. I didn’t come out of it empty-handed. To slap a woman in this country nowadays, there is a precedent and I don’t know whether people have the money to pay as compensation. He paid almost KSh30 million,” the former Nairobi County Woman Rep. said during the interview.
According to Shebesh, in the event that she would have kept quiet after Kidero slapped her back in September 2013, the action would have set a bad precedent for not just for female politicians but women in general in society.
“If I did not go strong on Kidero, I would have opened another floodgate of every woman vying for a seat being treated in the same way Kidero treated me…that you can slap a woman and easily get away with it” Shebesh added.
The Kidero slap
On that fateful day, Shebesh stormed Kidero’s office, accusing the governor of neglecting the plight of striking Nairobi County workers.
demanding that the governor addresses the plight of striking Nairobi County workers, some of whom had been interdicted for striking.
In their usual self, Kenyans turned the whole incident into a social media crave, with Shebesh’s response- Aiyaiyaiyaya, you have slapped me, Kidero…You have slapped me Kidero?- turned into a meme.
Kidero has expressed his intentions of vying for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in 2022.
