Two armed gangsters have been shot dead by Langata-based police officers in Nairobi County, after robbing a woman of her valuables.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI), the victim had just alighted from a taxi at Muhoho along Langata Road on Friday night, when she was attacked.
The criminals, reportedly armed with pistols, robbed the woman of her mobile phone and other valuables.
Three-kilometre hunt for criminals
By sheer luck, officers who were on patrol heard the victim’s distress call after “a scuffle ensued with the thugs”.
“However, on noticing the fast approaching officers, the thugs took to their heels towards Nairobi West, as they fired at the officers,” DCI said.
The chase went on for about three kilometres, with the officers whose “tact in covering long distance races came in handy”, finally arrested the thugs, but not without a scuffle.
One of the criminals reportedly began shooting at them and the officer in charge almost got hit. This prompted a fierce response from the officers who fired back and fatally injured the thugs.
They recovered a Blow P99A loaded pistol, with five rounds of 5.56 mm calibre from the criminals.
Detectives visited and documented the crime scene. The bodies of the criminals were moved to City mortuary pending identification.
