Murang’a woman forcefully circumcised by husband of 12 years, in most cruel way

A woman in Kandara, Murang’a County, is nursing injuries after she was reportedly forced to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by her husband and his ‘friends’, in the most cruel way.

Hellen Wangui, 30, claims that her husband of 12 years joined a secret Kikuyu sect, which prohibits men to be with uncircumcised women.

Going by rules of the sect, her husband allegedly performed a ritual where he slaughtered a sheep in the company of other sect members, after which he demanded that she and her two daughters be circumcised.

The mother of two claims that she declined his demands, and even reported the matter to area sub chief Mwangi Wandaro.

Unfortunately, her plea for help was dismissed. “He told me that I was not the first woman to be circumcised so I should just accept it for the sake of peace,” Wangui narrates.

On the fateful night of June 9, Wangui says her husband ambushed her in the company of four other men who stripped her naked before cutting off her private parts.

“My husband forced me to open the door for him. He came with other men who caught me by the neck, stripped me then began pricking me with needles on my private parts. They used their nails, a knife to cut off my private parts,” Wangui said.

She reported the incident at the Kandara Police Station, after which she underwent a medical examination at Murang’a Level 5 Hospital.

According to a medical report dated June 30, it was confirmed that Wangui underwent FGM.

Since then, the mother of two saysshe has been experiencing pain, bleeding on her private parts, vomiting and a lack of appetite.

Wangui further says that she had resorted to staying at home as she lacks the energy to carry out her casual jobs like before.

After the life-changing incident, the middle-aged woman is on medication to ease the pain, as she finds ways of dealing with the trauma.
