Drama ensued at Molo Police Station on Friday evening, July 3 after police officers engaged in a fist fight with Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers.
The incident that happened around 4:30 pm started after the EACC officers stormed the police station to arrest the OCS, Ann Kanorio, over bribery allegations.
The OCS had reportedly demanded money from a member of the public who instead reported the matter to EACC – Nakuru, prompting the officers to follow up.
“…they [EACC sleuths] introduced themselves to her and she did comply. In the process of her being searched and the recovery of kshs.10,000/= treated money being made, the officers at the station attacked the EACC officers and arrested them and had them locked in the cells,” reads the police report.
Five people including four detectives and the complainant were seriously assaulted by the police officers, sustaining injuries.
As a result of the altercation, some of the EACC officers lost their job identification badges, phones, personal cash, and a car key.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru County Deputy Police Commander Joseph Tonui said that EACC detectives had set a trap for the OCS and after she received the KSh10,000 treated money from the bar owner, detectives nabbed her.
Tonui, who was away from the station got the information and rushed back. He managed to calm the situation and ordered for the release of the detectives. The OCS was later arrested and is currently being grilled at the Nakuru Railways Police Station.
