A trailer transporting cement has rammed into residential houses in Homa Bay town killing two people on the spot and injuring several others.
According to a local adminstrator, John Ojiem, the trailer was travelling from Kisumu direction when it lost control at around 4 am.
Ojiem says it rammed into the houses where the occupants were still a sleep.
A 70-year-old man and his grandchild aged 12 years were pulled out of the accident scene, dead.
Another teenager was rushed to Homa Bay county hospital in a critical condition while others escaped unhurt.
Ojiem says the accident caused massive destructions of three residential houses.
The trailer was still stuck in the accident scene and the whereabouts of the driver is unknown.
Ojiem says the cement is still intact and there are fears of looting as locals continue milling around the scene.
