A suspected child trafficker was arrested on Monday night along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
Sarah Sensoria, aka Shantel aka Cynthia Chepkorir, was plucked from a Nairobi-bound bus at Makindu. She was in the company of a six-year-old child reportedly stolen from her parents in Kilifi County.
Reports indicate that police received a tip-off and set out a road block along the busy highway. They successfully stopped the Quick Bus and positively identified the child. According to Geoffrey Chege, the conductor, Cynthia and the child boarded the bus at Mwembe Tayari, Mombasa on Monday at around 3pm.
Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the suspect claimed the child “was being mistreated by her parents and was not even attending school that is why she had decided to take to her rural home in Siaya County.”
“She is being held in police custody awaiting collection of both by DCI Kilifi North for identification, further interrogations and possible legal action,” Ole Napeiyan added.
Cases of kidnappings and child theft have been rampant in the recent past.
