A 47-year-old man in Maili Saba, Kiirua location, Meru County, is nursing severe injuries after he was attacked by an elephant near his house.
The patient is receiving treatment at Isiolo Referral Hospital. He was rushed there by neighbours and relatives. They said the elephant turned its wrath on the man after he opened his house in response to a commotion outside. The commotion was by residents who were attempting to flush the jumbo from their farms.
Joseph Muriuki, one of the neighbours, warned that the residents will take the law into their own hands if the Kenya Wildlife Service does not reign in on the animals.
Catherine Kinyua a cousin to the injured, said that it was not the first time that the Jumbos had raided and caused havoc at the compound. She says the elephants also pose a danger to school-going children.
The elephants break from Mount Kenya National Park in search for food.
