Suicide or execution? Leaders question police theory on Kangogo’s death

Several leaders have raised questions as to whether fugitive cop Caroline Kangogo’s death was a suicide or cold-blooded execution.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior says Kangogo’s alleged suicide scene is “too neat”, suggesting that it was most likely staged. “The picture of the scene where the fugitive cop allegedly shot herself is too neat – crossed legs like she was watching tv, gun next to her hand ….. wacha tu,” he writes on Twitter.

A police report from Tambach Police Station says Kangogo “might have shot herself using the firearm from below the chin and the bullet exited on the head slightly above the left ear.”

A Ceska pistol cocked with a magazine loaded with eight rounds was found next to Kangogo‘s right hand. She was found slumped inside a bathroom, about 40 metres from her parents’ main house in Keiyo village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Her death ends a two-week-long search. Kangogo’s name has hit the headlines in the past weeks over links to the murders of two men. Police officer, and erstwhile lover James Ogweno, was shot in the head inside his car in Nakuru. Peter Ndwiga, a businessman, was killed by Kangogo in a lodging in Kimbo area, Thika Road.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula says investigations into the death of Kangogo should continue. “Cpl Caroline Kangogo is dead from an alleged suicide. This should not bring closure to investigations as to who killed the two men associated with her. We might never know her side of the story! In the complex world of crime, there could be a third force!!” Wetangula said.

Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi said, “The media has been conscripted by DCI to run with the cover-up story “Caroline Kangogo commits suicide.” Who was the witness? When was the autopsy done? I remember telling special crimes boss on Tuesday, “I am sure you guys will eventually tell us that you found her dead.”

Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Patrick Lumumba, who led officers in retrieving Kangogo’s body, said they would probe how the deceased sneaked into her parents’ home the previous night and circumstances behind her death.

Her body was moved to Iten sub-County Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
