Former Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti is dead.
Mwiti died on Sunday morning, July 25 after a short illness at a Nairobi hospital. He died at the age of 57.
According to his family, the former lawmaker has been in good health but suddenly developed diabetes-related complications on Saturday night and was rushed to the hospital.
He represented the people of Imenti Central in Parliament from 2013 to 2017.
The late Mwiti hit the headlines when he was accused of raping a woman on March 21, 2015 at Tana Club along Woodvale Grove in Nairobi’s Westlands area.
He was in February 2018 charged alongside David Muchiri, a doctor who allegedly conducted an involuntary HIV test on the complainant. He denied three counts of rape, intimidation, and assault. The case has been dragging until his death.
In 2018, Mwiti faced bankruptcy proceedings after his financial firm collapsed with over KSh6 million in savings of 6,000 members.
