Three-month-old baby, 98-year-old among those infected with COVID as 16 succumb to virus

A three-month-old infant and a 98-year-old are among the 664 new COVID-19 cases reported in Kenya on Sunday, July 25.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new cases were detected from 5,432 samples tested between Saturday and Sunday. 633 of the cases are of Kenyans while 31 are foreigners.

The males continue to take the lion’s share of COVID-19 infections, accounting for 378 cases- against 286 females.

The latest data means that Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate now stands at 12.2 percent. Kenya’s national caseload has risen to 197,409.

Distribution of cases in counties

The new cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi 280, Kiambu 82, Uasin Gishu 66, Kilifi 66, Nyeri 46, Mombasa 26, Nakuru 17, Nandi 13, Machakos 10, Murang’a 9, Kajiado 6, Busia 5, Siaya 5, Kisumu 4, Embu 3, Kitui 3, Laikipia 3, Garissa 3, Nyandarua 3, Kakamega 2, Kericho 2, Meru 2, Taita Taveta 2, Tana River 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Baringo 1, Kisii 1, Bomet 1 and Elgeyo Marakwet 1.

On a positive note, the CS Mutahi Kagwe-led ministry says that 201 patients have recovered from the disease, pushing the total COVID-19 recoveries in the country so far to 185,808. Of the 201 recoveries, 143 were from the Home-Based Care Programme while 58 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country.

Unfortunately, 16 patients have succumbed to the virus. Kenya’s COVID-19 death toll now rises to 3,865.
