Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was on Monday, July 26 released on a cash bail of KSh12 million or a bond of KSh25 million.
The lawmaker was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, to answer to six counts of corruption-related charges. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
While appearing before Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, Rigathi’s lead counsel Kioko Kilukumi had asked the court to admit his client to reasonable bail terms.
Senior Counsel Kilukumi had argued that the charge sheet is not determinate on the bail the court should consider.
The MP is currently been held at the court’s precinct pending processing of the bail.
Rigathi is facing six counts including conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, fraudulently acquiring public property, and money laundering.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has sought 14 days to process all the documents required by the court regarding the case.
The nine accused persons who were absent in court today will be summoned on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.
The case will come up for mention on August 9, 2021.
