Drama as MP Didmus Barasa slaps contractor for locking KSh3.4M classrooms

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was on Friday, July 30 involved in a physical altercation with a local contractor.

In a video, the legislator is seen slapping Stephen Masinde, popularly known as Steve Kay after the contractor reportedly barred him from commissioning the classes he had built until he was paid.

The whole drama started when MP Barasa arrived at Baptist Lurare Primary School in Kamukuywa to commission the five classes built by the National Government Constituency Development Fund.

The lawmaker was, however, irked when he realised the classes had been locked by the contractor.

Masinde and his colleague Ronald Graham Wafula constructed the classes at a cost of KSh3.4 million. the duo claims that the MP has not paid them their money, even after completing the project.

“When we asked the MP to pay us he says that he does not pay contractors half of their money but he pays them in full and he will do so and we shouldn’t be worried,” Masinde says, adding “I have closed these classes because they cannot begin to operate without me being paid as they will be spoiled by children and he might end up refusing to pay me completely.”
