Police in Bungoma town have arrested 16 people who were found drinking alcohol inside a locked pub.
The merrymakers were picked at OutLaws Club within Bungoma town. OCPD Benjamin Kimwele said the owners of the pub had been playing a cat-and-mouse game with the police by locking in revellers in contravention of the 7pm curfew. “But today we planted ununiformed police officers inside the pub and they assisted in the operation.”
Bungoma alongside Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Kericho, Bomet, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori were the counties in which a 7pm-4am curfew was put in place owing to the spike in Coronavirus cases.
Kimwele said that while most pubs and entertainment places in the county are complying with the protocols, there are a few notorious at flouting them.
Those arrested include revellers and pub attendants. Kanduyi ACC Abdi Shakur says they will be charged in court today (Friday, 31st).
