Drama ensued at Nyeri County Referral Hospital after Governor Mutahi Kahiga was confronted by a security guard who did not notice him.
Governor Kahiga on Monday Sunday, August 1 made an impromptu visit at the facility after patients decried the shortage of drugs and essential services. The governor, however, was in for a rude shock himself.
The security guard reportedly confronted the county boss with insults when he enquired why people seeking health services are being kept waiting in queues.
At the maternity wing and various corridors in the hospital, most patients cried to the governor over poor health services and lack of drugs. The patients say that they are usually directed to buy drugs and gloves from private facilities.
Kahiga stormed the facility offices where he ordered an emergency meeting on Monday morning to solve the standoff that has seen the facility lose its reputation. A section of leaders in the county has called for the governor’s resignation because he has failed to manage the hospital.
Other facilities facing similar problems are Mukurwe-ini and Karatina hospitals where patients are complaining about lack of drugs despite the county government flagging off a consignment of drugs worth KSh36 million recently.
