Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Wekesa Barasa was on Monday, August 2 arraigned at Kimilili Law Court on charges of committing grievous harm on a local contractor.
Barasa and his co-accused who were absent from court were charged with physically assaulting contractor Stephen Masinde on July 30 at Lurare Baptist Primary School in Kimilili sub-County, Bungoma County.
The Kimilili legislator denied the charges before resident magistrate Gladys Adhiambo.
The arraignment came few hours after he was arrested by officers from Kimilili Police Station at his Nasianda home.
The court released the lawmaker on a bond of KSh150,000 with one surety or cash bail of KSh100,000.
Addressing the press after the court session, Masinde’s lawyer Brian Khaemba said justice should prevail.
“We want to laud the police for swiftly arresting the MP whom we want the courts to ensure that he serves as an example to other legislators,” Khaemba added.
The case will be mentioned on September 27.
