Girl willing to sell kidney for secondary school fees gets scholarship

As Form One students continue to join school this week, a girl who was intending to sell one of her kidneys to raise secondary school fees has received scholarship.

Marriet Achieng who hails from Kipsongo Slums in the outskirts of Kitale Town, Trans Nzoia County, received funding from Joseph Pepela Foundation.

Fees headache

Achieng sat for her 2020 KCPE at Chetoto Primary School in Kitale, where she scored 404 marks.

Consequently, she secured a place at St Mary’s Girls School Bomet. However, the third born in a family of four had allegedly been hopelessly counting down days to Form One admission date.

She says her decision to donate a kidney was out of the poor status of her family. Her mother Joyce Omondi allegedly works a hairdresser and has never met her father.

“I want to study and fulfill my dream of becoming a cardiologist,” Achieng tells TV47.
