The two brothers who died mysteriously after they were arrested by police will be laid to rest on Friday, August 13 at their home in Kithangari, Embu County.
Felix Thinga, the family spokesperson says preparations are underway for the brothers’ burial, with villagers helping in mounting tents, conducting few repairs and tidying up the compound.
“We have agreed with the church to have the burial on Friday,” Felix said
Benson Njiru, 22, and Emmanuel Mutura, 19, gruesome death hit the headlines on August 3, sparking widespread protests for two days in Kianjokoma town. One person died and others injured when police engaged the protesters.
Edward Mbugua, the deputy Inspector General of Police, was compelled to order the transfer of officers who handled the case.
The siblings were arrested for reportedly violating the evening 10pm-4 pm curfew on August 1, 2021. Police claim the brothers jumped off the speeding police vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.
