Premier League returns: Plenty of flash, excitement as Brentford welcomes Arsenal

Football fans all over the globe are buzzing with excitement as the English Premier League officially makes a return.

The start of a season is usually filled with optimism. With all football clubs on level pegging, even the most pessimistic of fans out there dream of seeing their beloved captain hoist a trophy or two.

Defending Champions- Manchester City are still the team to beat this season, with Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC and Manchester United FC all harbouring realistic ambitions of knocking them off their perch.

English clubs have demonstrated their financial muscle in the transfer window with some of the top talents in Europe snapped up.

With full stadiums and new VAR directives, 2021/2022 promises to be a fascinating season. As far as VAR is concerned, the “toenail offside calls” and the soft penalties we saw awarded last term will come to an end.

Manchester City

The bookies say Pep Guardiola’s men are the favorites to retain the crown they won last season.

With the addition of English sensation Jack Grealish, they have only gotten better. With the transfer window yet to close, speculations are rife that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will end on the Blue half of Manchester.

The squad possesses some of the most talented footballers around and one would have to be a very brave gambler to bet against them.

Manchester United

The chasing pack too has not been left behind. Manchester United finally signed English winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. The transfer window has also seen experienced defender Raphael Varane move from Real Madrid to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils now look like a team that can challenge for the top prize.

Chelsea

Chelsea FC, who beat Manchester City to win the 2021 Champions League trophy, have solved their nagging, lack-of-goals issue by resigning Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

The Pride of London can only get better, buoyed by Wednesday’s Super Cup win over Spanish side Villarreal CF. A section of pundits are seeing Tomas Tuchel’s men dominating English football… once again!

Liverpool FC

For Liverpool, last season was one to forget. Marred with injuries, their title defence was non-existent and finishing third was almost commendable.

Nevertheless, one cannot write off Jurgen Klopp’s men who are hoping to return to their mercurial best with the return of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk. The famous spine-tingling rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone is something to look forward to.

It’s not just the ‘big’ teams who have upgraded. Leicester City continue to establish themselves as one of the top teams in England and are aiming to better their fifth place finish.

Aston Villa have impressed many with their smart business this summer and expectations are clearly high for Dean Smith’s side.

Brentford will tonight become the 50th club to participate in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see how they will perform. Other new additions to the league are Norwich City and Watford, who are making a return to the top flight after one season away.

All these added to the fact that the Premier League has incredible top-down quality among teams, then we are certainly in for a cracker of a season.
