A police officer based in Embu West sub-County was on Friday, August 13 arrested for vandalising Embu Police Station.
Constable Arnold Ngugi is accused of causing the damage after walking into the police station at around 9:45 pm.
“He maliciously took the station occurrence book and tore it into pieces for no apparent reason,” reads a police report in part.
In his drunken stupor, the officer claimed “he knew his rights both as a police officer and a Kenyan citizen.”
Torn OB taken as exhibit
Ngugi was immediately arrested by his colleagues and locked in the cells as he awaits disciplinary action.
“OB which commenced from 17/7/2021 s/no 52 to s/no 88 of 13/8/21 kept as exhibit,” added the police report.
The incident comes amid reassurance from Interior CS Fred Matiang’i that his ministry was looking into improving the welfare of the security force.
“As we always promise, we will stay the course of improving the welfare of our @NPSOfficial_KE officers,” Matiang’i said as he flagged off construction of modern houses for police officers in Industrial Area.
