Isiolo County Government has been put on the spot over a dispensary that is yet to be operationalised, despite the project being completed four years ago.
Angry residents confronted Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo during a security meeting in the area, pleading with her to work with Governor Mohamed Kuti in ensuring that the dispensary is up and running.
On her part, Senator Dullo wondered why the health facility is yet to be opened. The project was reportedly concluded by the national government and handed over to the county government.
Health functions are devolved in the country, with Senator Dullo faulting the county government of laxity, despite residents being in dire need of health services. Currently, they travel for long distance to get health services.
“The county government is spending over one billion shilling every financial year, this should have been one of their priorities,” said the senator.
Stella Kathure, a Community Health Worker (CHV) from the county who was part of the development committee of the project, says that if opened, the dispensary could save many mothers the pain of losing children during delivery. Kathure says that the area has so many malnourished babies who need medical services.
George Kareithi, a resident said the area whose population is growing at a higher rate needs a health facility.
