Meru senator Mithika Linturi was on Tuesday released on a KSh200,000 cash bail, or an alternative of KSh500,000 bond.
While appearing before the Milimani Principal Magistrate Martha Lanzushi, Senator Linturi denied two charges of attempted rape and indecency.
The senator is accused of intentionally and unlawfully attempting to rape a 36-year-old woman in her hotel room in Nanyuki, Maiyan Villas, on January 30, 2021.
According to the prosecution, the lawmaker also indecently touched the said woman’s private parts without her consent.
Linturi was granted bail but warned against directly or indirectly tampering with prosecution’s witnesses.
The case will be reviewed on October 26.
