Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua is the most influential female politician in the Mt Kenya region, this is according to an opinion poll by Mizani Africa.
In the polls released on Thursday, Karua, popularly known as ‘Iron Lady’ leads with a 35.3 percent approval ratings.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Murang’a Woman Rep. Sabina Chege come in second and third as the most influential female politicians in the vote-rich region. According to the poll, Waiguru and Chege have an approval rating of 18.7 and 15.6 percent respectively.
Nakuru Senator is ranked fourth with 7.9 percent while Bishop Margaret Wanjiru came last at 0.7%.
The survey was conducted in the counties of Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia and Murang’a.

Approval ratings of aspirants
In Murang’a County, Irungu Kang’ata is the most preferred senatorial candidate with a 47.6% lead. He is followed by his predecessor – Kembi GItura at 15.1% while Irungu Nyakera is third at 11.3%. Joseph Mbai came in last with 1.2% popularity as 10.6% are undecided at the moment.
Sabina Wanjiru Chege is the most preferred Woman Representative Aspirant leading with 44.3% while Waithira Muithirania is second at 30.1%. 18.6% of the population is undecided.
As for Embu County Gubernatorial race, Lenny Kivuti leads the polls as the most preferred candidate with a 40.9% lead. Cecily Mutitu Mbarire came in second at 32.9% while James Muchiri Nyaga came in third at 14.0%. 4.5% of the population is undecided.
Tharaka Nithi County: Former Governor Samuel Mbae Ragwa is leading the Mizani Africa polls as the most preferred senator with 43.1%. Current Senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki is second with an approval rating of 33.5%.
Laikipia County residents who participated in the polls preferred re-electing current governor Nderitu Muriithi (43.2%). Current Woman Rep. Cate Waruguru is the second most preferred aspirant for governorship with 22.7% approval ratings while former Governor Joshua Irungu came in third at 19.1%. 0.25% of the population is yet to decide.
The overall demographic split by age shows that those between the ages of 30-40years constitute 29% of the population. Those between the ages of 41-50years constitute 22% of the population. Those above 50 years constitute 21% of the population while those below 30years cover 28% of the population.
