“Ignore the fake news; I am in the race for Mombasa Governor”- Mvita MP

In Summary

  • Political detractors have printed T-Shirts announcing his candidature for Senatorial seat.
  • The fake news was widely circulated on social media.

Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has rubbished news circulating online that he had opted out of the race for Mombasa Governor, settling for the Senatorial seat.

”I know my detractors. They are running scared. Their actions are purely kicks of dying horses. I have the people of Mombasa on my side whom I believe have seen what I have as their representative servant in the near-a-decade of service,” he said.

Nassir appeared to have been infuriated by online information posted by some unknown people who used his picture and that of former Prime Minister and ODM party leader, Raila Odinga to insinuate that he had actually met Odinga and thrown in the towel over the coveted Governor’s seat.

”The picture they used was taken sometimes back when I went to pay Baba courtesy call. Nothing will distract me from my quest to go for the county top seat on an ODM ticket,” he said.

Speaking when he met members of the Power Unity Group at Kaaa Chongo village in his Mvita constituency, Nassir added that those seeking to challenge him have run out of ideas and were now freely misusing social media to tarnish his reputation.

”A young shark is never taught how to swim. I was born in a political family and have overtime mastered the art of doing politics while taking keen interest in the full welfare of the people who ensured that I get to parliament.”

He chided his opponents for being selfish, saying they are only keen on lining their pockets as the masses continue to suffer. ”Some leaders are only aspiring to be in politics to enrich themselves. For us, we have stood with our people during their lowest of times. We will stick with our people for better times ahead.”

Nassir says his political detractors have printed campaign T-shirts bearing the message ‘Nassir for Senator 2022′. ”I wish to tell all and sundry that I am in the race to succeed Governor Hassan Ali Joho in 2022. Nothing more, nothing less,” he said.

Unperturbed by the fake news, Nassir who chairs the powerful Public Investment Committee held a series of meeting in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
