Kenya emerges third at Edmonton 7s after South Africa, Britain

The Kenya Rugby 7s team, Shujaa, have emerged third at the Edmonton Sevens after a defeat from their long-term African rivals South Africa.

The semi-final game on Sunday saw South Africa thrash Kenya 33-7, bundling them out of the finals.

The match was a replica of the Vancouver 7s final where Springboks beat Shujaas 38-5 to win the title.

Shujaa had qualified for the semis on a comfortable win after beating hosts Canada by 33-14.

Kenya’s outstanding perfomance

South Africa’s Springboks were crowned the 2021 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Champions as Shujaa came in second overall on 40 points.

Kenya finished with 34 points at a tie with Great Britain.

Shujaas have had a stunning performance in terms of gameplay since their Tokyo 2020 Olympics appearance.
