Car ferrying bags of bhang crashes in Bomet; police hunt for driver

Police in Bomet County are investigating an incident where a vehicle was involved in a road crash while transporting six bags of bhang.

The Toyota Passo, KCZ 197J, hit a bump and rolled in Sachangwan, Bomet Central, along the Kisii-Narok Highway on Monday morning around 5 am.

Bomet Central Sub-County Police Commander Musa Imamai, confirming the incident, said that the vehicle hit the bump and rolled repeatedly before landing in a ditch.

The badly damaged car was towed with the bhang to Bomet Police Station.

The police boss says a manhunt has been launched for the driver of the vehicle, who escaped immediately after the accident.

“Our officers are looking for the owner of the vehicle, the driver and a passenger believed to have been on board at the time the accident occurred,” Imamai told journalists.

Eyewitnesses said that the suspects, who had sustained serious injuries, were rushed to hospital by good Samaritans. A search for them in local hospitals, however, did not yield results.
