Househelp accused of attacking employer, killing seven-year-old son arrested

In Summary

  • DCI detectives have flushed out a househelp accused of killing her employer’s seven-year-old son.
  • The 24-year-old woman allegedly attacked the prison warder in her sleep.

DCI detectives have nabbed a househelp accused of injuring her employer and killing her seven-year-old son in Baringo.

Lydiah Jelagat Kipng’etich, 24, ambushed her employer, a Rumuruti based prison warder, at her home in Marigat, Baringo County.

During the September 24 incident, Kipng’etich allegedly crept into the master bedroom at night, armed with a machete and rungu and attacked the warder who was asleep.

DCI says that at the time, the man of the house was away working.

With blood oozing from her head, neck and arms, the employer raised distress calls, alerting the neighbours.

“Thunderstruck neighbours thronged the scene to the victims’ rescue, but Lydiah escaped in the cover of darkness,” the investigative agency adds.

Househelp’s hideout discovered

As they made plans to have the woman transferred to Nyandarua County Referral Hospital for treatment, they stumbled upon the minor’s body hidden under the bed.

“He had some blood oozing from the mouth, with no physical injuries,” DCI adds.

The deceased’s body lies at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Joint efforts between the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau from Nairobi and Marigat-based detectives helped corner the househelp this weekend.

“After hours of engaging detectives in a cat and mouse activity, the slippery suspect was flushed out of her friend’s house in Kongasis yesterday in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

She is currently being held at Marigat Police Station, pending arraignment at Kabarnet Law Courts on Tuesday.

The suspect will be charged with murder.
