Detectives seize cocaine, morphine concealed in earrings at JKIA

Anti-Narcotics Unit officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have seized a cache of narcotics concealed in two shipments.

Following a tipoff on Wednesday, officers based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport were able to get their hands on the narcotics.

One of the shipments was allegedly destined for Australia and had been declared as African traditional earrings.

The 168 pairs of earrings were discovered to be concealing a yellow powdery substance which was subjected to presumptive tests soon afterwards and positively identified as morphine.

Cocaine substance

The second shipment was comprised of 12 kitenge dresses and an additional 199 buttons destined for Hong Kong, China.

Upon thorough scrutiny, the officers found a white powdered substance hidden within the buttons and tests revealed it was cocaine.

According to DCI, both consignments have since been handed over to ANU-DCI officers for further investigation.
