Drama ensued at Kakamega Main Prison on Saturday after one of the inmates applied faeces all over his body in protest against being served “little food”.
According to officials at the correctional facility, the inmate applied faeces and climbed to the rooftop in protest over food. After a few hours and following pleas from prison officials, he climbed down.
Confirming the incident, the Prison Commander Japhet Onchiri says the said inmate was charged with robbery with violence and murder charges, offences that led him to be imprisoned at the facility.
Onchiri warned Kenyans against falling prey to con messages reportedly sent by inmates demanding money.

In December 2020, two prisoners in Voi GK Prison climbed on top of the facility’s rooftop in protest.
The two claimed that they were being tortured by officers inside the facilty.
According to them, they were being subjected to beatings after they complained about the violation of their human rights. They were crying to passersby to help them.
The institution, however, dismissed their claims insisting that the two were new in the institution and that they had been trying to incite others.
“They just came in the other day after they were transferred from another facility. The matter is being addressed by the officers in charge,” stated an officer identified as Bison Madegwa.
