Eight arrested over attack on DP Ruto’s motorcade

Police in Busia have arrested eight suspects in connection to the chaos that broke up during Deputy President William Ruto’s tour in the county on Saturday.

The eight are suspected to be part of a rowdy group that stoned and blocked motorists in DP Ruto’s motorcade at Korinda area.

According to the National Police Service, the rowdy group indiscriminately pelted stones at motorists resulting to injuries and destruction to property.

The eight suspects include Fredrick Okoth, Reuben Barasa, Moses Oridi, Friday Ouma, Michael Omondi Alwando, George Odongo, David Ouma and Wejuli Shalmin.

Suspects Incensed with Ruto Visit

They are currently being held at Busia Police Station pending their arraignment in court to answer to charges of malicious damage to property, incitement to violence, creating disturbance among others.

“The National Police Service urges the public to shun acts of violence as we enter the electioneering phase. We shall take firm and decisive action against those involved in acts of election-related criminality irrespective of their age and standing in society,” says the police service.
