A woman in Laikipia East sub-County is nursing gunshot wounds after she was allegedly shot by Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip.

According to a report filed at Nanyuki Police Station on Sunday, 32-year-old Joy Makena was shot on her right leg just above the ankle, after a quarrel ensued between her and the lawmaker at KANU Grounds in Nanyuki town.

“Victim was rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital in stable condition,” the police report reads in part.

Police officers and DCI detectives who rushed to the scene recovered two spent 9mm cartridge cases.

A firearm with 13 bullets was also recovered from Senator Loitiptip’s security detail – Police Constable Manoah Omale.

Police say the whereabouts of the senator remains unknown.

In an interview with Standard, however, Loitiptip says that he had gone for a checkup and would release a statement on his account of events afterwards.

“I am at a hospital for some checkup and will speak on the matter later, but the truth is that I was attacked by a knife-wielding gang last night,” he said.

Senator Loitiptip on spot

Last week, the senator was on the spot again for assaulting a local youth in Lamu.

Loitiptip reportedly kicked and harassed a man identified as Francis Mugo at Manda Airport Jetty on Tuesday evening, just minutes after Deputy President William Ruto left the county for Nairobi.

DP Ruto had visited Lamu town to drum up support for the “hustler” movement and spread the gospel of his bottom-up economic model.

Mugo, 32, was injured in the right hand, left eye and hip.
