Genital and uterine infections: Why ladies should STOP using tissue paper after peeing

In Summary

  • Dr Kibe says that tissue paper is made from recycled material and shouldn’t be used to wipe after peeing.
  • Urinary Tract Infections can cause infertility if it spreads to the endometrium.

Reported cases of genital and uterine infections have been on the rise among women.

Gynaecologist Dr Ignatius Kibe says lifestyle choice is a major contributor to this increase.

“Ladies nowadays want to wipe themselves after peeing, as if they went for a long call,” he said on TV47’s Morning Cafe. What were your grandmothers using because there was no tissue papers then?”

According to Dr Kibe, tissue paper is made from recycled paper, which might have wiped vomit, or tends to have dust particles.

Slew of Infections

These particles can cause Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), which can deteriorate to Sexually Transmitted Infections or even Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases.

“If you feel pain while peeing, then you probably have a UTI. UTIs can affect one’s fertility if it spreads to the endometrium. Endometrium is the lining which has menstrual blood; it is also where the baby is attached for nine months and so once it is inflamed, no baby can be implanted there,” he says.
