  • says its shameful to drive the fuel guzzler around in a poor constituency marred with diplorable roads.
  • He was recently arrested for leading a demo protesting govt’s neglect on roads.

A Ghanaian member of parliament has excited many after he refused to use his brand new official Toyota Landcruiser V8, and instead opted to drive his small car of undisclosed model.

Francis-Xavier Sosu said he found it insulting driving the $100,000 car made available to lawmakers, in his poverty-stricken constituency.

Speaking with Citi TV on October 26, the Madina MP said he had placed a request to have it reclaimed by the government and got turned down.

“I don’t use V8, I have been given but when I look at the level of poverty in my community, I don’t feel right driving V8 around…I have a small vehicle which the police attempted to destroy yesterday during a protest over the poor nature of roads in the constituency.”

He revealed that he only accepted the vehicle because “he did not want to be tagged a deviant” stating that the only time he will be using the luxury car will be for outstation duties requiring long trips.

“..Unless there is a real need for it, there are certain occasions that may necessarily require its use, like accompanying a sitting president…”

The youthful lawyer-cum-politician had led a spirited protest against the poor roads in his constituency on Monday, October 25.

According to the angry locals, they were tired of spending a lot of money fixing their cars as a result of the poor roads.

The MP accuses the national government of neglecting his constituency after awarding the tenders to non-performing contractors and failing to follow up on the matter.
