Woman found dead in lodging, days after fleeing home over marriage dispute

In Summary

  • Police in Kajiado are investigating the death of a woman at a lodging, days after fleeing from her matrimonial home.
  • Her father claims he received a call from his son-in-law urging him to warn his daughter against alcohol abuse, oblivious she was already dead.

A family in Kajiado is demanding justice for their daughter who died mysteriously at a lodging in Kajiado Town.

The deceased, Rose Njoki Gicheha was allegedly booked into a guest house on October 15 by a middle-aged man only to be found dead on October 18.

She had reportedly left her home after having an altercation with her husband.

Her father Rufus Gicheha claims he received a call from his son-in-law Joseph Kamanu who urged him to warn his daughter against alcohol abuse.

“I told him to handle the situation as he was the one who lured her into alcoholism,” Gicheha adds.

The lodge cleaner who briefly interacted with the man accompanying the deceased, says the man claimed to be nursing a patient.

“On Sunday at around 6 pm, he requested me to make some tea without sugar for them, which I did and left shortly after,” she adds.

Lodging Mystery

Njoki’s family maintains that she must have been assaulted by the husband and succumbed to injuries while at the lodging. It appears that the two have been having wrangles in their over-a-decade long marriage. This time, they suspected it was a case of infidelity.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor says the autopsy was inconclusive, although more samples had been collected for further testing.

Njoki’s and Kamanu’s families are now in a dilemma over who shall be allowed to bury the deceased, as investigations progress. Meanwhile, police have arrested Kamanu and the man “nursing” her at the lodging.
