- A Nairobi-based detective is nursing injuries after accidentally shooting himself.
- The sleuth was trailing a suspect and when he finally caught up with him, and was about to restrain him, he shot himself.
A detective based at Parklands Police station is nursing a bullet injury in his left leg after he accidentally shot himself.
During the Friday incident, Detective Luke Juma was effecting arrest on a suspect identified as Philliph Munyasia in Industrial Area when he got injured.
According to DCI, Munyasia had been involved in an incident that left a victim fighting for his life.
On spotting the sleuth, the suspect took off, prompting a chase that left traders along Lunga Lunga Road nonplussed.
The chase came to a halt after about 400 metres, after Detective Juma caught up with Munyasia and pinned him to the ground.
“As they rolled with Juma struggling to handcuff a stubborn Munyasia, he accidentally discharged one round from his Ceska pistol holstered on his waist.,” DCI adds.
The bullet hit his left leg just above the knee. However, he managed to restrain Munyasia until his colleague Corporal Abdilatif Ahmed arrived.
Detective Juma is now in stable condition recuperating at a city hospital while the miscreant is cooling his heels behind bars awaiting court arraignment.
