Police in Nairobi are holding two suspects for allegedly trafficking Cannabis Sativa.
Hassan Adan Maalim, 25 and Shedrack Maangi, 35, were transporting the prohibited drug disguised as cement.
They were arrested by the Special Service Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations along the Thika-Garissa Road yesterday afternoon.
Eighty-nine bales of the drug were found in the Mercedes Actros truck they were driving in, registration KBS 601 M. “The SSU sleuths were acting on an intelligence report of a notorious criminal syndicate that guises as serious builders of the nation, while trading in the illegal drug from Wajir using branded vehicles,” sais the DCI.
“Upon interception, search and confiscation of the stowed stockpile, the two occupants and the Mercedes were escorted to DCI Headquarters, where the Anti-Nacortics detectives took over the case for further investigations.”
The two suspects will be arraigned in court today.
Last October, a multi-agency Police unit manning a road block at Archers Post along the Isiolo – Marsabit – Moyale Highway intercepted a Mazda vehicle ferrying 30 kilograms of bhang and arrested four suspects.
