“I will not be intimidated, I will not resign!” CS Matiang’i tells Ruto’s allies

In Summary

  • CS Matiang’i tells DP Ruto allies he will not resign.
  • He dismisses claims that he is interfering with IEBC’s mandate to discharge its duties effectively

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i now says that he will not be intimidated, neither will he resign following pressure from some political quarters.

Speaking on Monday during the launch of Limuru sub-County headquarters, Matiang’i dismissed claims by Deputy President William Ruto allies who said that the CS will not help IEBC deliver a free, fair and credible elections, owing to the fact that he is partisan.

He likened the accusations that he is interfering with IEBC’s mandate to claims that Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua held meetings at night in 2017 to rig elections. “They accused Mr Kinyua, a man who can’t even hurt a fly, we are used to their propaganda!” He retorted.

Political leaders affiliated to UDA asked Matiang’i and his ICT counterpart CS Joe Mucheru to resign for taking sides in succession politics. “You must decide whether you are going to serve the Kenyan people and prepare for the coming elections together with IEBC in a nonpartisan manner or you’re going to be mobilisers of ODM,” Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro had warned earlier.

The cabinet secretary insisted that they were doing their job which is to create the right environment for IEBC to discharge its duties effectively.
