Goat or sick kid? Husband-wife tiff over herding goats costs life of child

In Summary

  • Eyenae Ekwom, 35, hit the child with a stick, killing him.
  • He fled immediately after the incident.

Detectives in Turkana South sub-County are hunting for a man who allegedly killed his 2-year-old son after a tiff with his wife over herding goats.

Eyenae Ekwom, 35, quarrelled with his wife Eblait Nangiro over what should take priority: herding goats or taking their sick child to hospital.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the man preferred that his wife tends to goats and not the sick child.

“When his wife became defiant and insisted on taking the baby to the local dispensary for treatment, the man descended on them (woman and child strapped on her back) with blows and kicks,” says DCI.

Goats ‘Cost’ Child

The baby was hit with a stick, falling out of consciousness. Nangiro sustained injuries on her face and legs. Concerned villagers rushed the mother and baby to Lopur dispensary, where the baby was confirmed dead on arrival.

The incident happened at around 1pm in Lopur village, Turkana County, yesterday.

The suspect immediately went into hiding. “A manhunt has since been launched by our Turkana based counterparts,” says DCI.
