Bodaboda rider electrocuted after crashing into a collapsed pole

A 22-year-old man died on Thursday evening after being electrocuted in Koyundi village, Migori County.

According to the deceased’s father Christopher Chembugwe, his son Douglas Shikade was riding a motorcycle “when he crashed into loosely hanging cables attached to an electric pole.” electrocuted.

The pole had collapsed following a heavy downpour in the area.

Speaking to a local radio station, the father said his son died while receiving treatment at a hospital. Shikade worked as a bodaboda rider.

Village elder Hassan Gombania called on the government to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action.

Area residents have asked Kenya Power perform regular check-ups on the infrastructure to prevent such incidents in future.

“Some of the poles holding the power cables are very old and should be replaced to avert such possible accidents in future,” added Gombania.
