A family in Rachuonyo north, Homa Bay County, is in grief following death their kin, a secondary school teacher, by suicide.

Kennedy Ochieng, 41, a teacher at Nyong’ong’a Secondary School in Nyakach, Kisumu County committed suicide at his home in Kalal Village.

His body was discovered by his brother Michael Ouma, hanging from a mango tree.

“I looked for a panga and cut the rope thinking I would save him. But he was already dead,” Ouma said.

He revealed that they had last spoken at around midday. The deceased, he added, showed no signs of depression.

Caroline Anyango, late Ochieng’s sister-in-law said she had met the deceased holding a rope and even inquired about it.

“When I asked him about the rope, he hid it in his pocket and said he intended to use it for tying his bed,” Anyango added.

Confirming the incident, Pancras Lumumba, Assistant Chief of Kobuya East said investigations had begun to establish circumstances that led to this tragic death.

“We have pastors, elders, government officials and professionals who offer counselling services. Residents should seek help from them instead of committing suicide,” Lumumba advised.

The deceased’s body is lying at Kendu Adventist Mission Hospital Mortuary.
