- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be without his two key players in the squad.
- Manchester City are hoping to bounce back after last weekend’s defeat by Crystal Palace at the Etihad.
Manchester United face the EPL reigning champions Manchester City today at Old Trafford.
The 3:30pm match is the first Manchester derby in the 2021-22 season.
Only three points separate the two clubs. The ‘Cityzens’ are currently third on the league standings after 10 matches with 20 points. Their rivals, on the other hand, sit fifth with 17 points.
The two clubs have faced each other 185 times in competitive matches, out of which United have won on 77 occasions while City have won 55. Fifty three matches have ended in a draw.
Key players missing
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be missing two key players in the squad: Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane. Striker Edinson Cavani is also in doubt. Pogba is currently serving a three-match ban following his sending off in their devastating loss to Liverpool.
Their defensive struggles are set to continue with Varane sidelined with an injury he sustained during their Champions League draw against Atalanta in Italy.
Manchester City are hoping to bounce back after last weekend’s defeat by Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium. They will be without defender Aymeric Larpote who picked a red card during the Palace game.
Manchester derby top scorer
Former United star Wayne Rooney is the all-time highest goalscorer in Manchester derby’s history with 11 goals to his name. Another United legend, Ryan Giggs is the most-capped player in the derby’s history with 36 appearances.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester after 12 years, enjoys a healthy record against City. He has faced them on 14 occasions (for Manchester United and Real Madrid), winning on nine occasions. In all, he has scored five times against City.
