Sigh of relief as KeNHA plans to dual Kiambu Road

In Summary

  • Thika Road and Northern By-pass feed huge traffic volumes to the narrow Kiambu Road.
  • The expansion will come as a relief to commuters grappling with traffic jams for years now.

It is a sigh of relief for motorists and commuters plying the Kiambu Road after Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced plans of expanding it into a dual carriageway.

KeNHA says that dualling will ease traffic congestion that has been plaguing the busy road and other adjoining road networks.

Kiambu Road is a critical infrastructure bearing in mind that it feeds traffic in and out of Nairobi and Kiambu counties. The authority says that expansion of the narrow road will subsequently hasten economic growth.

“The State through KeNHA has proposed the development of Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi road into a dual carriage,” said KeNHA in an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment filed with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) seeking approvals.

“The road commences at Pangani and Muthaiga interchanges along Thika Road, and proceeds through Kiambu town ending at Ndumberi.”
