- Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi termed COTU Sec Gen Atwoli as a tax default “suspect.”
- Atwoli says hardwork and paying taxes is what has led to his lavish lifestyle.
COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has hit back at a blogger who aaccused him of defaulting on tax returns.
This comes after Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) said it is eyeing Kenyans who evade taxes but display lavish lifestyle on social media.
It all started on Tuesday when blogger Cyprian Nyakundi accused the COTU boss and wife Mary Kilobi, who are currently enjoying a vacation.
He alleged that they were tax evaders referring to them as “suspects”. The COTU boss replied to his tweet advising him to work as hard as he has and avoid being jealous.
“Nyakundi, this might be you in future if only you focus on your life, and worked hard, and not waking up to troll others on social media. Envy is one of the 7 deadly sins,” the COTU boss added.
General Githii Mburu, KRA Commissioner, on Monday said there are officers monitoring social media for Kenyans who post images of their cars, houses and other fancy activities.
“Here, we are not sleeping. When we see those we see taxes, we have our officers looking, they have gadgets.” Mburu added.
